The Yellow Door

Ella Rae gently pushed against the door. Both children held their breath as the door slowly opened, making only a whisper of a sound. A long series of "cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep....." sounded faintly through the opening. Melvin came to stand behind Ella Rae, then both slowly pushed the door open further and stepped through. Blinking in the bright light they finally noticed they were in some kind of wooded clearing. Now they could hear birds, and other noises they had not yet identified. The air was softly warm and yet a bit steamy like a fresh loaf of bread.

The long swaying grass at their feet was a strange blue green, while the sky they could see peeking through the heavy foliage was a clear aqua. Everything seemed tinged with a blue cast. Just as they were taking stock of their surroundings a shrieking voice said "And just what do you think you are doing here?" Both of them jumped and in panic turned back to the door, but it was gone. Again the raspy strident voice called out "Announce yourself at once!"

Thoughts

Wow it has been a while. Not wanting to - but just finding myself busy and alas unmotivated. I think we all have times like this. The trouble is, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it is just feeling fat and old and useless. Sometimes I think young people don't think we have a life or ever had a life and our opinions don't matter. Oh well, I need to push past this and count on God for a little peace in my life.

The weather has gotten beautiful and I can so appreciate it after such a long winter. I guess this is a time to appreciate and revel in the small things in my life. Sometimes I want to beg God to make everything good for me and my family. But I know that in doing so, we would fail to grow into the strong people God wants us to be. I want life to be easy but it never is. I want life to be a rose bush without the thorns. I should know by now this isn't His way.

Day to day faith is just plain hard.

Finished!

At last the room is ready to be used. I still need to get some artwork on the walls. We all like it, including the cats.

The Yellow Door

Melvin and Ella Rae watched with intensity until they became bug eyed. Melvin was propped up on the door frame as it sat about 8 inches off the floor and as he stared into space a yellow door popped into place and glowed. "Ahhhhh...." Melvin screamed as he fell backward into the bedroom. Ella Rae reached out quickly and said "Please stay!" As Melvin put his head into the little doorway of the attic room, he saw Ella Rae sitting there holding the palm of her hand against the yellow door which looked as solid as her. She whispered, "Don't move!"
